Anyway! Looking for a new urban fantasy novel then this book is going to be one you snatch up.

While this fresh new series is connected to the Death’s Intern series, it’s set sixty-five years in the future! Cue up the time machine boys and girls! The future awaits!

The first thing you’re going to notice, other than the kick-ass woman standing center stage, you’re going to see that the world apparently has gone to shit. LOL! Well, it is the apocalypse. So…yeah. LOL! Then, cat lovers rejoice! We get a new kitty!!

Unfortunately, he’s not pet-able, (cue pout) but he brings a ton of humor, so there’s a silver lining to that cloud. And, what post-apocalypse story is complete without zombies, demons, and…angels, you say?! Well, let’s get on board with this series, because it’s going to be a blast! No, seriously…it really is. LOL!

Recruited is book one in the Elisha and Elijah Chronicles by D.C. Gomez. Elisha is a witch just winging it through this post-apocalyptic era with her delightful familiar, Elijah. This book is going to start out “normal” enough before the author smacks you in the face with a line that is going to have you literally laughing out loud.

“Elijah, your pet just decapitated himself, again.” Of course, when you read that line, a litany of things go racing through your mind. “What kind of pet just cut its own head off?” “How was that even accomplished?!” Yeah, that one probably will come first, because when we all hear or think “pet” we’re thinking something with paws. Yeeeahhh…nooo….Elijah’s pets? Zombies.

Are you intrigued? Then go grab this book!!

In the first two pages, this author is going to have you howling with laughter. When author Gomez promises you humor, she delivers. In spades. The author is going to call upon readers to use their imaginations in the most hilarious ways as Elisha and Elijah paint some rather comedic mental pictures of zombies doing menial jobs around Elisha’s place in Texas. Yes, menial jobs and that includes using power tools. Who knew they could manage it!?! LOL!

Elisha is one sassy character that readers are absolutely going to love. She brings the sass without going overboard with it. She is an engaging character who brings a touch of humor to the storyline. Elisha is a witch. She’s one of the few who are left in the world. Those others who remain? Well, they’re probably in hiding after what the humans did to them. But Elisha is about to be offered an “opportunity” to “claim a place” for witches again in the world. It’s safe to say that “If it sounds too good to be true…it probably is.” Good news? Elisha is no dummy.

Recruited is an engaging novel liberally sprinkled with hilarious dialogue. You will be devouring this book like a zombie on fresh meat. Elisha and Elijah come together as a dynamic duo of chaos and magic. Tasked to find and bring back a child for the Counsel. Sounds simple enough, right? Sure it does, but add in the magic ingredient of demons, and things may have just gotten a little more complicated than expected. Makes for a great story though!

D.C. Gomez makes sure that Elisha and Elijah’s story isn’t at all that straightforward. You’re promised post-apocalypse and you get exactly that. The human population may have been decimated, but that doesn’t mean that they’re all gone. Where would the fun be in that? No, humans are still around, and author Gomez gives readers a nice blending of believability concerning their behavior. Be careful who you choose to show kindness to. They’ll “appreciate” it at the moment, but the minute you turn your back? Yikes!

Wondering which character will be the biggest draw for you? That’s going to be a tough one! Elisha has some really iconic moments, but Elijah brings most of the laughs. We’re not just saying that because he’s a cat either. LOL! He’s an exceptional cat/familiar, and he brings a healthy dose of humor. One thing for sure about Elijah is that he loves his zombies. One thing is for sure though, Elijah is a true asset to Elisha. The more that D.C. Gomez reveals about their connection the better of an understanding you develop concerning them.

Recruited is packed with twists, turns, surprises, and an ending that is going to leave you eager for book two. Elisha and Elijah are about to be taking a deep dive into some serious chaos. Their list of enemies? It’s about to grow by leaps and bounds. While their troubles are just beginning, one thing is for sure – all of their headaches are going to make for some great story-telling.

Recruited is just the beginning of this post-apocalyptic series, so don’t miss out! Packed with fun characters, engaging storyline, and so much more this is a book that you’re not going to want to miss out. Especially for fans of urban fantasy and post-apocalyptic novels.
