In order to help out writers with their craft, we will tell you the most common mistakes that writers make, that we notice while we are making reviews of several books. We will, in this series let you know ideas that we get in order for you to use. Free of charge. *Winks*
1- Leave spaces
Reading into itself is already taxing for the eye of your reader, and no matter how good your story is, a packed text will not make life easier for your reader, much the contrary.
Reading a tightly packed text is demotivating because it is hard.
Have you ever noticed that the books that sell a lot also tend to be the ones with more space between the lines to read?
2- Keep it within the genre.
This one is simple: If you are writting an action thriller romance, keep the action to a maximum, the thriller to a maximum, but keep “romance” to the bare minimal. If possible, avoid it completely.
Keep it whitin the genre.
Another tip is to keep expectations within the confines of the genre. Started writing about killing people and Mafia? Great, keep it about killing people and the Mafia.
3 – Pay attention to details that readers will pay attention.
This one is more complex. We came to this one while reading a book that had a Mexican character. Cool book, but at the time, the writer was constantly trying to make the character sound Spanish, which is expected, and his speech have Spanish scheme language. The problem is that the Spanish words didn’t have the symbols they normally do.
Well, this shouldn’t matter a great deal, but it does. It shows that you didn’t make enough research on your book, and that downgrades your writing VERY fast, because readers will have the impression, and rightfully so, that you are lazy, and that is awful for your career.
