“Larougo” by Anna J Walner

Garkain

FINALLY we get to read the second book of this AMAZING and romantic series about vampires and “werewolves”, of the AMAZING, Anna J Walner. OK. On the review of the first book, we told you guys that Garkain had best-selling potential and should become a best-seller. Well then, we were ABSOLUTELY correct, because Garkain, not long after we published that review, actually became an Amazon Best-selling book on its category! Yes! That’s correct, Garkain is an Amazon Best-selling book. Yes. And yes, you want to read the review and get yourself the first book before you read this one. Hehehe.

Larougo.

Anna J Walner starts off the book with a lightning fast and effective recap of everything that happened in the previous book and “just like that” we are back into the present book, back into the series that is rolling off with the current events and the current worries of the couple, Amelia and Roan. It’s subtle and effective. Why are we putting this into relevance? Because, it takes some good amount of skill to do a recap that keeps the reader interested, doesn’t spoil the book, makes the reading of the current book feel like a stand-alone while relaying all the information needed in order for the reader to continue without having to worry. It’s impressive indeed. Love it!

The romance scenes and dynamics are top tier, specially between Amelia and Roan, as they flawlessly blend into a unit as couple and you can just feel the love they have for each other, and that lights up the novel a lot allowing Anna J Walner space to use this “lighting” in her favour when she wants to make the novel darker, which is something very smart on her part and very well thought.

We love how Anna J Walner starts throwing small hints, reactions and possibilities that create dread and imagery of catastrophe in the near future, setting mysteries on every side and growing the image of the villain in a very subtle way while moving the book in a fast pace and keeping the romance through it all, it’s amazing. The family issues that aren’t yet revealed and the brewing storm on the distance that threatens to destroy the whole possibility of a new race, even though there are alliances on the making, is enticing, making us want to devour the whole book at once just so we can know what is really going on on the background! Add all of that, to the fact that Amelia is pregnant and her feeding needs are growing by the minute, and her emotions are now on the edge at all times, then we know that loads of chaos are awaiting us and that this won’t be a smooth ride of a book, at all.

Now, here’s the thing with this book and Anna J Walner’s narrative and plot. Yes, it IS romance, yes, and VERY well written, no doubt, but even in all the loveliness and all the cuteness and all the pampering and emotions, this book will leave you on your edge, on the tip of your toes while you are reading it. Anna will not give you a single moment of peace of mind and relaxation as she will keep implying and suggesting, every so lightly, ever so indirectly, that something WILL go wrong sooner than you expect and EVEN when problems are solved, you KNOW that they aren’t completely out of possibility, at all, and you don’t know enough for you to make deductions while Anna is also forcing you not to focus on what’s going on on the background. THAT’S how you make a book thrilling! And THAT’s how the pros do it! LOVE IT!

The smoothness of the read, the uninterrupted flow of the book, the solid feeling of the characters, the flawless dialogue and realistic interactions, the mystery, the consequences, the romance, the always present emotions and excitement, it’s all so gripping, so interesting that you cannot take your eyes off the book, and as the pages turn and count up to the last, you wish you had another 300 left to read because the story is SOOOO well written!

We got new powers, revelations, HIGH tension, emotions on overdrive and much much more, ohhh this book is so good, and when it comes to gore, Anna J Walner will go from 0 to 100 in less than a second! Things will happen so fast that you won’t even know what’s going on.

One cannot dislike this book, not even if one tries real hard, it is amazingly well written, and Amelia, our main character is one of the best female MCs out there, not only because of her maturity, her grit, leadership abilities that are learned and not “given”, her savvy decisions and her emotional intelligence, but also because she feels real! Anna J Walner made a GREAT JOB when it comes to the characters here. She kept them steady, real, not “over the top”, nor forced. It’s an absolute pleasure to read them and read their interactions. Larougo is an AMAZING read, simply AMAZING, and it’s the PERFECT continuation, the PERFECT transition for the final book. Larougo IS another best-seller in the making, no doubt, at all. This is AMAZING! Truly impressive, and the way she ended this book while opening the door to the next as she finally shows the villains… Priceless! I can’t wait for the third book (review here), because it will be AWESOME!

  • EXCELLENT characters, very well constructed and kept, with new additions to the plot and new revelations that increased over what we already knew about them in the first book
