Errors, a collection of short stories By J-man.

(I recommend this book for every single soul that lives)

A collection of short stories aimed for the odd, horror and Scifi lovers of all ages above 14. A simple, “shy” but yet, necessary title that remind us of our humanity, makes us appreciate life and the little details of the usual more by giving a very delicate touch to our souls and minds.
The author doesn’t have the narrative skills of J. K. Rolling or Tolkien, but, it has the message and he delivers it gracefully.

It starts off with Synthuman, a story about a robot and a boy. The author’s first lines grip your curiosity that is kept, not only by the simple, and yet effective description of the scenario, making it more vivid, but by the message that he is trying to pass that keeps itself hidden until the very end.

Once you get to the second story, you notice the author has a thing for aliens/ non-humans that resemble human-like characteristics and the stories aren’t connected in any way, each with it’s own scenario, message and purpose. He brings stories that can make you flinch, because of the connection that has now bound you to the book and the implications of the stories. In some stories the story demands from our imagination the conjuring of many details that paint a purposeful horrific scene, this, because not al of the stories are dramatic, there are horror stories as well.

All the stories call upon our morality, our mortality, our flaws and yet remember us of our virtues as humans. They challenge the reader to re-think life, the human role in nature and in society. It’s not only a call, but a very solid warning of our actions.
The stories are overall appealing, creative, deep, thought provoking, fun to read and easy to enjoy.

Pros:

  • Simple narrative language suitable for younger readers (+14).
  • The closing off of the stories is done with the punchline, this keeps the mystery of the story for the reader.
  • Great humor.
  • Philosophical depth that is easy to understand and connect with.
  • Sensible, understandable and important messages.
  • Out of the ordinary characters that have good build.

Cons:

  • Although the stories are non-related, we felt that a better arrangement of their order would achieve a more fluid reading session, enhancing the overall appeal of the collection.

Favorite stories:

  • Sythumanity ; Scaring Serena, Monstrosity & Course Unknown.

Our final thoughts:

This collection of short stories is a nice title to read in your spare time.

Our final score: 7.8/10
