Enigma Jewels (Enigma Heirs Book 3) by Charles Breakfield & Rox Burkey

Fans of the Enigma series! The latest book in the Enigma Heirs series is here!! Enigma Jewels by authors Breakfield and Burkey continues the story of the Enigma Heirs, R-Group, and CATS team. The race is on to capture the final member of the dangerous trio of brothers. Julian remains the elusive threat, but the team is closing in. Enigma Jewels will bring you to the edge of your seat, and will keep you page-turning to the end.

Enigma Jewels draws the eye of readers with a cover that is similar to the books previous. Enigma Jewels’ cover gives readers a sense that we’re going deep underwater. The cover has a water line at the top of the book where mild waves can be seen dancing across. As the eye is drawn downward, we see the title of the book with a necklace of jewels hanging off the “s” of Jewels in the title.

Bubbles can be seen swirling up around the beginning of the world, Jewels in the title. Hidden in the murkiness of the water’s background appears a structure sunken deep in the water. It’s covered in algae, coral, and other aquatic plants. In the foreground of the cover is a dark-haired man. He’s staring out at readers with a steely gaze that appears to say he’s dangerous and not one to be messed with. In the bull’s eye of a scope is a deep-sea diver. Are you ready to head into the deep?

Authors Breakfield and Burkey start Enigma Jewels off with a prologue that picks up with our lone remaining brother – Julian Lafluer. Julian may have managed to escape the majority of the fallout in Mexico, but the Enigma team is hot on his trail. Julian has just lost an important transport on top of all his other losses.

For the briefest of moments in the prologue of Enigma Jewels, authors Breakfield and Burkey will lead you to fear that Julian is about to restart his collecting of humans. It’s okay, though…that’s not the case…this time. It turns out that Julian has other plans up his sleeve, and he just so happens to need individuals of a certain age to accomplish it.

Moving forward, Enigma Jewels proceeds at a clipped pace, drawing readers into the storyline. We get the fallout of Julian’s actions from Enigma Forced (check out the review here) in the prologue, as well as JJ’s reaction to the fallout. Authors Breakfield and Burkey accurately guess that readers will be curious about Judith and Xiamara.

Enigma Jewels continues with Julian having quite the time of trying to figure a way off the island that he’s on. His options? Limited. Seeing as he’s currently on an island, driving is out of the question. Flying? Well, as authors Breakfield and Burkey laid out in the prologue…that’s off the table. So, that leaves him with just one option – a water escape. Too bad he, Julian, doesn’t have a boat. So, the next plausible step? Find someone who does, and who is willing to take a decent-sized payment for transport…and silence.

Enigma Jewels moves fluidly and alternates at random between the Enigma team and Julian. We get JJ, Brayson, Gracie, Judith, Xiamara, Marian, and the two younger cousins get their moments in the spotlight a couple of times as well for the good guys. They provide a nice diversity of individuals to keep the story from getting stagnant by focusing on just the major players.

When it comes to the characters, though, in Enigma Jewels, JJ, Brayson, Gracie, and Marian will be the primary players of this particular installment to the series. Julian, while on the run, has his bodyguard with him. Other players will gradually be introduced into the story as Enigma Jewels moves along. Harto, one of Julian’s henchmen, also makes an appearance. He’s one of many, but he’s the one with a big surprise or two up his sleeve.

Authors Breakfield and Burkey paint a dynamic picture through their creative words in Enigma Jewels that paints images of Julian on a quest to collect long-lost gemstones from beneath the waves. Prepare to be enticed to the tropics, where lost shipwrecks lie deep under the waters. Where Julian’s brothers are absorbed by things on the land, Julian was lured by the siren song of things that are harder to trace.

The way that Enigma Jewels is written, you absolutely will get the sense that authors Breakfield and Burkey are weaving some magic. We say this because they orchestrate the story to direct readers with expert subtlety. Why do we say this? Well, you’ll see for yourself, but we’ll give you a clue. Just as you find yourself thinking about a particular character, authors Breakfield and Burkey will not long after bring that particular character into the story. It’s absolutely uncanny and truly delightful at the same time.

The Enigma heirs show just how adept they are at tracking down Julian. Authors Breakfield and Burkey weave a game of cat and mouse between these two sides. The team managed to acquire pieces of an intricate puzzle that they hope will point them in the right direction to track down Julian. What’s nice about Enigma Jewels is that things don’t always go the Enigma heirs’ way. It’d make for a rather dull story if it did, though, right?

The same can be said for Julian. He has his moments of success in Enigma Jewels, but he faces his own setbacks and pitfalls. Of course, he also has clients and investors to whom he must answer. The tension ramps up with their insertions in the book. The pressure that it puts on Julian pushes him to demand results sooner and faster from Harto.

Dispersed throughout Enigma Jewels, authors Breakfield and Burkey tuck in reflections back to the past. We get such teasing details about various shipwrecks scattered throughout the oceans. These references will push readers to not only dig deeper into the story itself, but also want to discover more about these ancient ships, long lost at sea.

One aspect of Enigma Jewels that readers will truly revel in will be the various personalities – especially the villains. You just never really know what to expect from certain characters. As Enigma Jewels unfolds, authors Breakfield and Burkey will surprise you with betrayals and double-dealings. Readers will get to see the other side of certain characters’ personalities that they will not expect to see, and will definitely have their jaw on the floor.

While there is quite a bit of drama and close calls throughout Enigma Jewels, the scales are tipped in the Heirs’ favor. Julian and his crew are granted an advantage here and there, but it’s a rare thing. Good must triumph over evil, but it would have made for a more dramatic story if the scales had been a little less in the Enigma group’s favor.

As Enigma Jewels draws to a close, a series of events plays out on the page that will keep readers on their toes. Some events will be expected, while others will be very much unexpected and will surprise you. This novel is packed with realistic characters and situations that will draw you in and keep you page-turning.
