Author Jonni Jordyn returns with the sequel to the first book in her The Lost Art of Magic series. The Untold Prophecy continues Destiny’s story by picking up where The Lost Art of Magic left off. In this book, readers can expect drama, action, chaos, and yes, a major cliffhanger. Are you ready? Because the fire is coming.
The Untold Prophecy draws the eye of readers with a cover that gives the impression of flickering flames and fire. The title itself is written in cursive script with vibrant oranges, reds, and yellows to give the illusion of it being fiery. The cover is the image of a young woman with long dark hair. Wearing a bikini-style top, she leaves little to the imagination. Hanging from her neck is a golden chain holding a glowing stone that draws the eye downward. Down to her left-hand side are flames that mildly disguise her bare midriff as the flames reach upward.
The Untold Prophecy picks up where The Lost Art of Magic left (You can check out the review for book one here). The remaining mercenaries are running through the swamp in the dark. They have no idea if they are being pursued or not, but their fear drives them. That is, until someone invades the mind of one of them. Can you guess who this “mysterious” force is?
Whoever they are, they push their chosen “puppet” to embark on a new course for their purposes. Where will things go from here in The Untold Prophecy? What task has this mercenary been set to after bearing witness to the loss of his fellow comrades to fiery ends? Prepare for manipulation that, while intended to stop one path from being followed, sets even more dire consequences in play.
Destiny, her grandmother Michelle, and Blake have been left homeless due to the actions of the men who came to kill them in The Lost Art of Magic. So, with no place to go in The Untold Prophecy, they make the decision to go see Destiny’s mother, Tempest. Their quest will be a chaotic one for sure. Destiny will be struggling with her unnecessary jealous streaks and the fact that they have nothing but their new-found abilities and clothes on their backs.
Destiny and company are still being hunted, but the things that Destiny had visions of in The Lost Art of Magic are about to start coming true here in this next installment of the series. First things first, though, and that is acquiring her mother. This is a task that they will be able to accomplish. Mind you, it’ll be close since the individuals on the opposite end of the spectrum are also racing to grab Tempest as well.
Author Jordyn promises new characters in this installment in The Lost Art of Magic series, and she absolutely delivers. In this book, readers will meet the rest of the Boutin clan. They travel to Michelle’s family farm, and there they are “reunited” with a half-sister with a grudge. Abilene holds a lot of animosity toward Michelle. Author Jordyn will allow you to wonder why, but that question will eventually be answered.
Unfortunately, it appears that Abilene has passed her resentment of her half sister on to her daughter, Honey. Watch out for her. Honey may have a sweet name, but this girl is anything but sweet. Author Jordyn writes Honey as fast and loose in The Untold Prophecy. Trust us, this girl gets around, and when Destiny and company show up, Honey sets her sights on Blake. Run, Blake, run.
Honey is going to be the source of a lot of chaos, conflict, confusion, death, and destruction throughout The Untold Prophecy. Author Jordyn has Honey steal the spotlight for the majority of the story. You’ll understand why, especially when Honey acquires the necklace featured on the cover. That piece of jewelry isn’t just a pretty bauble. It’s a seriously dangerous artifact that will fuel her power and make her a dangerous threat to the entire world.
When The Untold Prophecy begins, it will immediately pull readers into the story. With the two mercenaries on the run, you’ll wonder – will the gators get them? Or will they manage to escape the swamp alive? Once we see them go their separate ways, the story shifts back to Destiny and her family.
Author Jordyn reminds readers that Destiny is still very much a teenager. With her living such a sheltered life, we’re reminded that she has had little to no experience with relationships with those of the opposite sex. This is showcased frequently throughout the story when Destiny has a jealous episode. Blake can’t even look at another girl or woman without Destiny scowling at him, smacking him, or wanting to snap at him. If she could make him blind or all other women throughout the world “homely” or “ugly,” she would. Let’s all be glad that she can’t. LOL!
The pace of this story does slow down for a while as The Untold Prophecy progresses. Don’t worry, though! The pace does pick up again, and it’s when chaos absolutely erupts. When does this happen? Well, when the family all gets together. When Destiny and company arrive at the farm, you get the sense that Abilene is not what she seems. Author Jordyn will reward your suspicions with the truth soon enough.
What happens from there sets the stage for the rest of the book. Honey and her mother, Abilene, are on the run. But Honey has managed to steal something from Destiny during a moment of Destiny experiencing immense weakness. Author Jordyn unleashes Honey on the world in The Untold Prophecy.
You’ll get to witness the destruction that she leaves in her wake. Of course, this story will alternate between Destiny, Honey, and the other sorcerers who are trying to manipulate everything to their advantage. Side note: They are doing a terrible job. No, seriously, they should stop while they are not ahead.
Staying true to the overall arching storyline, author Jordyn remains consistent by having Destiny revisit the past and also experience visions that show what could possibly happen in the future. Things aren’t looking good. The trial that was hinted at in The Lost Art of Magic (You can check out the review for book one here) is finally taking place, and author Jordyn, hints that everything might not go according to what was originally witnessed.
The Untold Prophecy is packed with drama, edge-of-your-seat moments, and many revelations. When it comes to character growth, there really isn’t a lot. The drama is really the star of this novel as you find yourself hoping that someone will be able to stop Honey.
Compared to The Lost Art of Magic, The Untold Prophecy will end on a major cliffhanger that will have you either eye-balling book three or reaching for it to find out what happens next. Destiny’s youth is a positive, but when it comes to thinking things through before acting, it’s a negative. You’ll see what we mean when you grab this book.
The Untold Prophecy is an engaging novel that is a great addition to The Lost Art of Magic series. This book delivers a gripping storyline, with a nice addition of characters who help to really ramp things up. Author Jordyn will keep readers on the edge of their seats for the majority of the novel. There will be some slow spots, but it won’t take much for things to ramp back up and draw readers back in.
Readers who enjoy modern fantasy books will want to grab The Untold Prophecy. If you enjoyed The Lost Art of Magic, you’re not going to want to miss out on what happens next with Destiny and her family. You’ll eagerly devour this book and then be itching to grab book three to find out what happens next. Things are definitely ramping up, and you’re not going to want to miss out on continuing The Lost Art of Magic series.
Pros:
- Engaging storyline
- Good addition of new characters
- Page-turner
- Packed with drama
- It has a nice amount of detail
Cons:
- Destiny’s insecurity concerning Blake becomes overly redundant.
- Breasts are mentioned almost to the point of being excessive.
