On the cover are three of the characters who will be featured in this manga. Sitting in between two lovely young ladies is Kenny Loui in animated form. Sitting on his shoulder is an adorable little pig by the name of Irene. On Kenny’s right is Somi, a spirit. You’re first clue? Well, the floating balls of blue flame on either side of her.
On Kenny’s left is another young lady by the name of Debbie. On this cover, she’s dressed in a schoolgirl outfit with black shoes and stockings. Readers familiar with Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher (want to catch up with book 1? The review can be found here!) will find both these characters more than a little familiar. All of these characters are sitting on a giant mound of plush animals giving a cheeky nod to Kenny’s interest in playing UFO Catcher games to “liberate” the plushies “trapped” inside.

Kenny isn’t the sole family character in this installment. Instead, he is joined by his twin sisters – Sammy and Jinny.
Readers who enjoy Dr. Gerry will be thrilled to see his return, and it appears that readers are maybe going to get some romance and drama in this installment. Why do we say this? Well, there are two additional young ladies in this story. With the introduction of Kenny’s sisters, you can bet that something is about to go down.
As Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 begins the scene opens in Dr. Gerry’s arcade. Readers are greeted by Debbie first, quickly followed by Dr. Gerry. Dear reader, this is your warning now…prepare to 1) have a specific song stuck in your head for the next several days and 2) be literally laughing out loud.
We’ll admit it, author Loui warns readers prior to specific scenes playing out that he fully intends to “Rick Roll” us. However, it is still hilarious how it plays out, and the follow-up commentary from Irene, the plush pig, and Somi. The banter between these two characters at random moments throughout this manga had a nice amount of unexpected humor throughout.
Each episode throughout Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 is short, sweet, packed with humor, and is a lot of fun for readers to devour. Author Loui shares the ups and downs of being a UFO catcher and seeking to liberate innocent little plushies. The fun ramps up when his twin sisters set up on a blind date.
Cue the hilarity of it all in Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2, because there are some hints of trouble ahead when even technology seems to be against Kenny being set up on this “blind date.” Hmmm…is something even bigger at play here? The answer to that question will be answered with a little interlude from who will soon be your favorite “guardian” spirit(s): Somi and Irene.
Readers who are both familiar and not familiar with author Loui’s writing style will love the interactive elements of his manga. In a couple different places in Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 there are little QR codes. These codes allow readers to listen to a specific throwback song that coordinates with the scenes and scenarios taking place on the page. We are sure that readers will enjoy this interactive element as it takes this manga to another level!
As we read through Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2, we noticed that author Loui uses Korean words. We obviously didn’t have a clue as to what the characters were saying. Great news fellow readers! Author Loui already knows this and instead of leaving us to our devices of researching (as best we could) to discover the translations, bite-sized Korean word lessons are included! Courtesy, of course, of Somi and Irene! You have to love it!
Readers will absolutely appreciate the attention to detail that author Loui demonstrates through Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher: Season 2. From his sisters helping him pick a suitable outfit for his date, to the near misses from flying projectiles at the arcade, to the back and forth with his…ahem…failed date.
Honestly, besides the hilarious Rick Rolling, we were subjected to at the beginning of Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2, the back and forth between Kenny and his date – next level. It’s shocking, to say the least. Of course, Somi and Irene’s reactions are absolute gold, as well. But the argument over the plush – whether it’s a “cat” or a “bear”? Absolutely hilarious while teetering on bizarre. LOL! For the record…it’s a bear. LOL!
Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 is informative, humorous, and a delight to the eyes. The artwork by artist Yamawe is absolutely gorgeous. The art is eye-catching, captures the characters beautifully, and makes this manga an absolute delight to read.
Author Loui and artist Yamawe make it so easy to forget that Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 is an autobiographical manga! Packed with so much humor, but maintaining a sense of realism with educational aspects makes this manga a serious page-turner. One thing is for sure, you will be drawn to the edge of your seat, especially near the end.
Life Lessons From a UFO Catcher: Season 2 draws to a close with readers obviously wondering – “What is going to happen next with Kenny?!” What about the girl he met at the arcade…the one who…nearly got him with a dart? Yeah, we’re looking at you, Somi. LOL! Well, we are crossing our fingers that answers will be coming in Season 3, whenever it should arrive.
