Great news people! Isis and the gang are back! This time instead of witches, Texarkana is about to have a zombie issue. Constantine is not happy, so be sure to avoid using the “z-word” in front of him. Things are about to get rowdy and not in a good way. However, if you’ve read the first book then you will be thrilled to know that the gang is back, and the humor? The humor is on point all the way. So brace yourself for a basketful of shenanigans…oh, and don’t eat the pies. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. LOL!
Plague Unleashed is the second book in Death’s Intern series, and Isis is facing new drama. You get that sense the minute you see this book’s cover. Seriously, you have Isis swinging a machete and she just has this look on her face that says she has zero fucks left to give. LOL! Shit has hit the fan, and the zombies are incoming. Good thing she has a great team having her back, because this is not going to be an easy thing to deal with. Unleash the chaos and dive into the fun!

D.C. Gomez is back with another entertaining addition to the series, and this book is a must-read. Whether you have read the previous book or not, this book is sure to captivate your attention and keep you coming back for more. Readers who haven’t read the previous book will find that they can read book two as a standalone. Granted, it’s more fun if you’ve read book one, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Isis gives readers a brief breakdown and overview of who she is, who Death is, and how she came to hold the job as Death’s Intern.
Quickly the story shifts into what is currently going on. Brace yourself for some laughs. No, seriously. Imagine a person who died while running, and they didn’t realize they were dead, so their spirit? Yeah, it just keeps on going for a run. The whole situation that plays out is beyond hilarious. Poor Isis gets Army flashbacks and everything. Though I doubt the Army had geese. Did we pique your interest? LOL! Keep reading…or go grab the book and dive in. LOL!
Of course, this is just one piece of the drama puzzle that is about to be Isis’s life. Cue something weird going on in the park after the soul’s eventual collection. Honestly, it’s not every day that you see some random guy grab a living squirrel and take a bite out of it. Yikes! Seriously dude! WTF! Was he really that hungry??
It’s easy to write off that one situation as a one-and-done, but when more incidents begin to crop up around town…well, it’s time to call it what it is… a zombie apocalypse. Interestingly enough Constantine is against the z-word because it could mean big trouble. We know what you’re thinking…NECROMANCERS!! Sadly, no. LOL! Apparently, they like living. Not THE living, but just living themselves. LOL! You’ll understand when you read the story for yourself. So, who does that leave? Constantine’s least favorite person…Pestilence. YES! The introduction of a new horseman! Score! So, why does Constantine despise her so much? Trust us on this one…it won’t take long to figure out why.
Seriously, when she says, “Fine. I’m sure it has a plan for you.” In reference to Constantine, our jaw was on the floor. It?! She referred to Constantine as an it!?! If you’re not gasping in horror we just don’t know what to do with you. It’s honestly more of a surprise this particular character doesn’t have more “disgruntled” former employees.

While chaos begins to envelop Texarkana Isis is dealing with her own personal chaos. While the chaos threatening Texarkana is dangerous, the chaos threatening Isis is downright hilarious. Her friends constantly are telling her to be careful. It’s sweet until you realize that they are basically saying that she’s a magnet for trouble. How is half the stuff that happens her fault?! But things just get downright funny when the guys decide that Isis needs to get out and date more. Excuse us…what now? LOL!
If you are snacking while reading this book, carefully put the snacks/drinks away before you get to Isis’s date. We don’t want you to laugh so hard you choke. The one-liners are coming and one in particular had us howling. Isis does learn a good lesson though – never go on a date set up by the guys. They are THE worst “matchmakers” ever. Period.
The bad guy in this book is someone you are absolutely going to love to hate. Granted, you’ll cut her a micrometer of slack when you learn about her “struggle”, but that’s about it. A micro meter and not a micro more. Because seriously, who decides…”I’m going to prove that I’m the best by killing a bunch of people”? Okay… never mind… obviously someone who worked for Pestilence. But you know it’s on when she shoots up Constantine’s car. His response to that incident… absolute gold. But it won’t be long before you’re saying, “Okay, the accountant has GOT to go!”

The cast of characters in this book truly brings it to life. You get the regular gang from book one – Isis, Bartholomew, Constantine, Death, Bob, and Abuelita. But you get some newbies, too. They are familiar to the main cast of characters, but for us readers, we’ll be getting a better idea of who they are. One particular character who is going to stand out is Shorty. Shorty is hilarious! He makes a great addition to the cast and proves himself to be absolutely indispensable.
