MoneyWise Mabel’s Bursting Bank by Kalee Boisvert

MoneyWise Mabel’s Bursting Bank is a children’s book by Kalee Boisvert that focuses on introducing children to the bank, saving money, and becoming good stewards of their money. This book’s cover showcases a young girl excitedly hugging her piggy bank with piles of money stacked behind her. It’s humorous while being adorable at the same time. We all remember stuffing our piggybanks to capacity and thinking that we’re rich and can buy the world. Odds are this is how many a child thinks as well.

While that is not necessarily the case, a full piggy bank does bring promise and hope for delightful things for a child. This author touches on those elements concisely with this story while adeptly keeping it in a perfect style for young children to read and be engaged in Mabel’s own education.

This book should simply be viewed as an enjoyable introduction to banking for children. This is based on the fact that it doesn’t go into deep detail about all the aspects of banking. There is no talk of banking fees, minimum deposits or any of the like. This is understandable, as all of that would be overwhelming for a small child to comprehend. So, it’s definitely a bonus that the author stays focused on one thing at a time and keeps things simple for young readers. The time for learning more about all of that will come later.

As it is written, this book is ideal for young readers who have some money “burning a hole in their pockets.” This story is a good first step to becoming financially smart and stable by learning to save money and benefit from having it in a bank.
