Love is one of the most written about topics since time immemorial. It is a commonality that everyone across the world can identify and write about. From love stories like Krishna & Radha, to Romeo& Juliet, the idea of the star crossed lovers has taken many twists and turns. Thus so with Love’s Call by Fern Brady, which is a remarkable read combining fantasy, romance, with a hint of a operatic theatre, the author has outdone herself.

The main character by the name of Denipia Leron is by profession a painter who goes on to win a prestigious award called Innovation Awards in the Arts as she had developed a new painting technology. The interesting thing about this award is that it gets her an audience with the patron of the award who is Nichamir Linput of Sorusvia as described as the primary patron behind the award.
This creates a problem and an irony in the sense that the President is described as an enemy of free expression and yet he is allegedly a supporter of the arts. Once they meet, it is clear that they are star crossed lovers. For Nichamir is a dragonborn and that him and Denipia have been fated to be together.
It shows how even though Denipia wishes to avoid this man, she finds herself more intrigued and attracted despite what he has done during his rule, to the point that she finds herself wanting him.
This is an interesting take on the star crossed lover in the sense that while one is at first trying to refuse, over time they are drawn to the other person. The way it is written is phenomenal especially in the fantasy genre where with all the action and drama, the love background plays a key part in the story.

One of the things that’s intriguing is that Nichamir can tell that Denipia is for him by her scent. I think that is very interesting from the standpoint of fated to be someone by the scent. It’s relies I think that out of the senses we have as people, our sense of smell is the strongest and using that as a way for a dragonborn to determine a mate is unique. It’s like how dogs can use their sense of smell to not only point out danger or to find something but to also believe it or not, determine friend from foe. That is a tool that not only is my first time seeing it but also I think it needs to be used more.
Another thing that I found interesting about this book is that the explanation of Dragonborn and what it means when they find their mate. For instance, in the 4th chapter, Nichamir is thinking back to after he kissed Denipia, the taste of her in his mouth enveloped him and in that moment, he felt a sense of completeness that he had never had.
The chapter goes on to when he thought about his grandmother telling him what it meant to be dragonborn in the sense that dragonborn is regarded as a curse and how his parents marriage was a secret. It really brings into the circumstances as to why Nichamir is the way he is.

Overall the book is really good and a must read for those who love fantasy and romance mixed together. The book cover is good as it reminds me of across the universe and the map of the land where the story takes place in various lands helps the reader imagine themselves have a first person point of view.
