Suspension is one of those books that if you dare to open on a bookstore, you will buy it. Why? Because the first words of this book are so gripping, the plot and the possibilities so weird and intriguing that,  you wont have a clue that you are reading and once you catch yourself, you are in page 10 or 15 and yep, you have decided long ago that this was one book to keep. I mean, how would you feel like if you found out that your life will only begin after you die? And most importantly: Would you attend your own funeral?.

There is lots of humour, light and dark, along with a heavy dose of sarcasm and historical remarks with a narrative that is not only inviting, but captivating. It is light to the eyes and makes the story extra enjoyable as it moves steadily forwards, until… PLOT TWIST!!! HA!! Normally you expect a plot twist in the end of the book, or more towards it, but in this book it won’t happen like customary literary tradition, pun intended. It may not feel like a plot twist to some, but when you read it, you will notice a VERY unexpected turn of events from what, until that point, we were led to think and expect. NICE!

Suspension is super fun, weird, frequently comical, and with a story that you know is original. Creative, to say the least. Surprising is every corner, this story really puts into perspective the subject of death by detaching our main characters from life, LITERALLY, and making them face the other side while reflecting upon mortality, the importance of things, fleeting memories and the cherished moments and painful regrets that we, the living, go through. It’s fascinating, this proposed perspective through peculiar characters, and it puts things in an angle that we as readers reflect upon our lives, our choices, our destinies and the brevity of it all. Nice! We need more books like this. This is very nice.

It’s lovely the fact that we have a novel that is female-focused, with strong examples of how to stand one’s ground, and brave attitudes of women in the plot, with poignant themes as well.  Strong emotions from characters, very unlikely friendships and lovers, and the Sicilian food obsession. Quite interesting to feel how everything in this book moves, not in a succession, but as if there were many short stories bound together by just one line of plot, as we meet different characters, their stories, confusions and at times… mishaps and unfortunate circumstances that brought, or kept them “on the other side” as the narrative moves steadily with the story, and you love the stroll of it all, while absorbing the lessons the author is trying to teach you. It’s very nice.

The Victorian times here were a preeminent feature and the fact that the theme of burning women in the stake for simply being women reinforces the message of the author, or the intended message, as it is also incorporated into the background of this story of ghosts, destiny and the afterlife.

This first book of the Time Bounder series by Andrea Faye, is something that readers should keep an eye out on. A cozy paranormal novel, a short read, for sure, but beautifully light and powerful in its message with strong humour surrounding it. It opens up a completely new perspective upon death, existence and Hemingway, haahhahahahhahha, with diverse historical tales, themes infused into the novel. Heck! We even have Einstein in here, lol!  Suspension by Andrea Faye is just one of those books that you throughout enjoy, every word, every minute of it, no matter what you like to read.  Very nice book indeed, very nice, an instant recommendation from us.
