Intersections in Time is the long-awaited book two in Michael D. Brooks Destined series (Review of book one here). Book two starts off in space with the crew of the Infiltrator. The author gives a brief recap of the happenings from book one (Review here) to the present point in the story. As the crew is returning to their “own time” an incident takes place that breaks the crew up, and begins a new domino effect that could bring about a new level of danger for not just them, but for their friends left behind on Progensha. The question arises – “how do they navigate these obstacles and create the least amount of damage in the process?” You’ll have to read to find out that answer.
After a particularly dangerous and hair-raising collision, Captain Vee tempts Fate itself, and Fate answers in kindness, or might I say: in spite, because things reach a whole new level of danger and disaster!!! And the revelations to come? OMG! They will leave you squealing and screaming “No way!!!” in shock, and this will entice you, as it had me, in taking a deeper into this story to find out more. My fellow reader, you are absolutely going to love how quickly the author ties the title into the story. Although it’s done quickly, it is done flawlessly.
You will barely be three chapters into this book before the author is hitting you with one twist after another. One surprise after another will have you tempted to speed read to find out what happens next. Just relax, slow your roll, and read. This beauty of a book isn’t going anywhere. I promise. But this is one of those books that will have you shirking responsibilities to keep reading attentively to find out what happens next.

Brace yourself for this book. Where book one, Destined by Choice or Circumstance (Review here) focused solely on Leachim and Markka as they adjusted to life on a foreign planet, this book splits off into three directions following different characters all over. When the first hints of this possible shifting around began to take place I got so excited. I was hoping that the author would take this route, and my hopes were rewarded!
I love the humor that is sprinkled throughout Intersections in Time. It really helps to lighten the mood in what would otherwise be somber situations. I mean, we all know how difficult it is to keep a sense of humor when you’re stranded somewhere. So for these characters to be able to do exactly that while in less than ideal conditions, that, right there, says something.
Oh, go ahead and grab some tissues as you read this book. If you’re like me then you like it when an author invokes emotional reactions, and this book is no exception. There are some really emotional moments in this book that had tears welling up in my eyes. These moments will range from close calls that will have you biting your nails, to final moments that will have you choking up with tears. But it’s not all sadness, of course. There are the sweet moments, the humor sprinkled throughout to lighten the mood, and to be expected – moments of where the tension is drawn out for dramatic effect. LOL! Cora is pretty adept at those in this book as there will be times when you’re going to want to yowl at her to just “spit it out already.”
Where “Destined: By Choice or Circumstance” (book one) sets the foundation for this series,” Intersections in Time”, (book two) fills in the gaps and builds on it to create a vivid world, one word at a time. This intricate puzzle comes together smoothly, painting a picture that all readers can easily see in their minds. This book sweeps you away once more into deep space as familiar, David and Markka, and some new characters bring this story back to life.

Each of their lives is detailed as they fight for the survival of either themselves and those they love or the future of others yet to come. But if book one has taught me anything it’s this – prepare for twists!!! This book is packed with them! I really think that Michael D. Brooks enjoys them because they are so many. LOL! I doubt that anyone will be complaining because they truly liven up the book and keep you guessing as to what is going to come next.
Markka still reigns supreme when it comes to my favorite character in this series. I just love her so much and her antics. Despite her being queen, nothing much has changed about her. I loved when she had a memory about candy and her reaction to the memory was hilarious. I appreciate how the author stays true to her character and behavior overall. While there is quite a bit of drama in this book, I don’t think that I have a least favorite character to speak of. There are some emotional outbursts from a couple of characters, but nothing to cause me to dislike a particular character.
When “Intersections in Time” comes to a close, it’s not much of a cliffhanger. It’s more like a pause until later. The elephant in the room is still prevalent – “what is the Alliance going to do?” . There are some stark revelations that will have your jaw on the floor as the author exposes a few things about the enemy, building up your excitement to read what is going to happen next.
I fully enjoyed this book, and if you enjoyed the first book in this series (review here) then there is NO way you can dislike “Intersections in Time“. I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next for these characters as things continue to gear up to what I hope will be a big and exciting finale.

- The backstory is well done and helps effortlessly connect books one to two with little issue.
