My Pursuit of Beauty by Vince Spinnato

Before we start talking about the written content, the ideas, discoveries and the secrets of the beauty industry, we HAVE to talk about this cover! HA! THIS cover is genius! Intriguing. Comic and when you join everything with THAT title…. BUM! You have a potential best-seller right here! AMAZING! This is a cover that you WILL look at thrice!

OK. So let us talk about the elements of this cover. The first thing that catches your eye is, of course, the title, but what makes you read the title again is the main image of the cover. A man. Right?! When it comes to beauty, cosmetics and all the stuff, you expect a woman on the cover and THAT’S why our brains go like: “WTF?!” , and THAT makes you curious. The SECOND thing that you notice is the expression on the man’s face. He is like: “Hmmm… I can be more beautiful than this.” LOL. YES!

After that, we read the subtitle, and we are completely hooked in our curiosity! ” A COSMETIC CHEMIST REVEALS THE GLITZ, THE GLAM, AND THE BATSH*T CRAZY” . What do we have to say but: “This is how you do it!!!!!!” ?

*Claps* This cover is outstanding! *Claps*

Humor is an always present aspect of this book, from the first words of the author to the last, growing as the book goes. The titles of the chapters themselves are funny, intriguing and show a lot about the sense of humor of the author. You will have so much fun reading this, but the first story of the book is… crashing. A little sensitive to Americans, Sep. 11, is told from a weird and spooky perspective. But this story will not be the only one relating planes and weird things, in the US or Canada.

This book is very well narrated, we have to say this. The way Vince writes, shows not only understanding on how to pass on the message to the reader, but clearness on what to say and why. Excellently done in this aspect. The book feels light and uncluttered.

There is so much drama in the narration, and ohhh the humor ! AHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAHAA, “My Louis! My Louis!hahahaahhahahahaha, this book is so awesome, Vince is so awesome, hahahahahahahahah, LOVE IT! And oh, go do a blood sugar test before you read this because you might get diabetes, this is SOO SWEET at times, like, super cute, and clueless. Hahahahahhahaha.

We love the honesty of the author and the way he expresses himself, without fear of judgment and keeping his own ground. Another curious and stark thing is that the author looks at his past self with understanding and … face palms. His dreams and aspirations as a child and how he grew up watching the glam TV shows, and how they influenced him was laid with precision. There wasn’t any beating around the bush, but there was honesty, the feeling of wonder that was well conveyed to the reader. We can feel and see it all, understand and connect to the Vince in our own personal ways. There’s the family drama, and all the cool titles about his family, and holy crap, the author is a royal family member with a bloodline of musical geniuses! NO JOKE! That’s amazing!

Ps: Props for Vince for choosing his “religious” name. HA! Priceless.

This book also has a very needed part to it: Vince tells, in “bat-shit-crazy” detail about his obsession with Rob. It was sick, it was toxic, it was stupid, dramatic, and allow us to say this, fucking unreal, but who hasn’t been trough it, right?! This part of the book will help some people realize how deep they might be in an obsession and how destructive it can become. Somethimes we HAVE to STOP and think. ACTUALLY stop AND think.

Another reason this book is awesome is that Vince goes strongly and wisely against the stereotypes perpetuated by media, society and church about the “wrongness of being gay”. It’s beautiful to read as the author puts forward very good points! Awesome!

The persistence of this man is incredible and admirable. He’s a freaking beast! Like, holy crap! DAMN! If you have dreams, you HAVE to read this. You HAVE, to READ this. It’s so inspiring it hurts! So many failures, opportunities wasted, going broke several times, bad relationships and extreme compulsive disorders, chaos, but never giving up. He is so humble and grateful of people that helped him. It’s so cool! And he makes some good goddamn cream. HAHAHHAHHAHHAAHHAHAHAH

So there is a HUGE and valuable thing about this book. In fact, there are TWO special things about this book that are huge. One being the experience that the author had while in Auschwitz, which I’m sure many readers will find enlightening and the other one is about Trichotillomania. In his inspiring, emotional and honest way he talks about his experiences with this mania, and about the difficulties people have with it. We learned a lot about it on this book and found it fascinating, and sad at the same time. It isn’t pretty.

There is a strong theme and disclosure about beauty, the value of it and how much it can affect, or infect us. It’s part memoir, part comedy and drama, with business lessons, entrepreneurship, inspirational book and mental health. It’s so profound, so honest that it will become unforgettable to the reader.

For beauty fans, admirers and users of cosmetics, this book will give you a juicy insight on what is like to “BE” there before the product reaches your hands. And if you area not into cosmetics, you should read this book as well, because it is THAT awesome! Highly recommend this book. Grab your copy now!
